THE CHAIR “SUPPLY CHAIN OF THE FUTURE”

The Chair “Supply Chain of the Future” at École des Ponts ParisTech has been renewed for a second 5-year phase between 2023 and 2028.
The first phase of the Chair, launched in 2019, brought together the École des Ponts ParisTech and 4 major industrial groups from different sectors: the Casino Group (represented by its subsidiary Cdiscount), Louis Vuitton, Michelin, and Renault Group. The new phase of this partnership, signed on January 25, 2024, brings in two new partners: DECATHLON and Argon & Co (strategy consultancy specialized in operations), who join 4 of the 5 historical partners: Louis Vuitton, Michelin, Renault Group and École des Ponts ParisTech.
This Chair, intended to be a complete chair, combining research, teaching, and sharing, meets a common goal shared by the Ecole des Ponts ParisTech and its partners: to drive forward training, innovation and research in the field of supply chain management, and to meet the challenges of the supply chain of the future.

CHAIR’S MISSIONS

Why create a supply chain for the future chair at School of Ponts ParisTech?

CONTEXT

  • In a context where prevail uncertainty, resurgent crises and climate change, the Supply Chain stands at the heart of the ongoing transformation of companies. This cross-functional function will increasingly require collective solutions and systemic approaches, bringing together different stakeholders (manufacturers, public authorities, academia, civil society, etc.).
  • The Chair "Supply Chain of the Future" at École des Ponts ParisTech, launched in 2019 and renewed in 2024, addresses this need for an extended ecosystem to anticipate and innovate.
  • The supply chain is at the crossroads of ecological, energy, social and digital transitions. It covers a wide range of industrial and societal challenges, including the sustainable transformation of economies, organizations and regions, sovereignty and risk management, human capital and change management.…
  • All these major issues call for long-term investment in training and research, drawing on spectacular advances in technology (data sciences, artificial intelligence, etc.) and human and social science approaches.
  •  It is therefore with a view to advancing training, innovation and research, and developing collective solutions to meet the challenges of the Supply Chain of the future, that the partner companies have renewed their confidence in the Chair..

THE CHAIR’S ANSWER

  • Through this Chair, the partners companies intend to further increase their skills, in a process of innovation, agility and green transformation of operations, with the following objectives :
    • Optimize customer experience and satisfaction.
    • Improve profitability in production and distribution.
    • Better orchestrate operations from suppliers to stores.
    • Integrate new HR skills and improve working conditions.
    • Support the sustainable development and CSR strategies of their respectives organizations.
    • Develop collective solutions for anticipating and managing risks, applied to supply chains.
  • The École des Ponts ParisTech brings to the Chair its expertise through its teaching departments (Industrial engineering / Mathematical and computing engineering / Economics Management Finance / Mechanical and Materials Engineering / City Environment Transport / Civil Engineering), its research laboratories such as CERMICS (Centre d'enseignement et de recherche en mathématiques et calcul scientifique) and CIRED (Centre international de recherche sur l'environnement et le développement), as well as the d.school (The design thinking expertiseof École des Ponts).
